Urgent!

We have got the details of the plan as follows.  On April 17, 2006, Recruit Cosmos Co., Ltd. submitted a plan on the land development of Socony Residences, Honmoku to Yokohama City Office.  An information sign on the land development is standing on the stone wall near Kofuen on the side of Hasseiden Local Museum.  The plan is including 14 single-family residences in 2,862 square meters on the side of Hasseiden out of about 7,000 square meters.  (Please refer to Development Map and Land Use Map.)  That means the two-story residence of Socony Residences, Honmoku might be destroyed.  Recruit Cosmos Co., Ltd. will start explaining to local residents in 11 days after the submission.  The starting date will fall on April 28, 2006.  The plan might be implemented unless any formal objection in writing is made within 10 days after completion of the explanation.  We will inform you about more information that we need to discuss further as our group.  (April 20, 2006)


A change of the Owner

The owner of the land which Socony Residences, Honmoku is located, has been changed to Recruit Cosmos Co., Ltd.  They exchanged a sales contract with Shinsho Corporation, which was the previous owner, at the end of March 2006.  We are informed that the new owner is planning single-family residences on the land.   The plan was submitted in advance to Yokohama City Office at the end of December 2005.  The details of the plan will become clear soon.  (April 6, 2006)


The second lecture

The second lecture was held on December 18, 2005 at Education Hall in Momijigaoka, Nishi-ku, Yokoyama, which was attended by 40 people from Yokohama and Tokyo in the cold weather. The guest speakers were Mr. Takayoshi Suge, CEO of Yamate Planning Cabin, and Mr. Hiroshi Misawa, Misawa architect and planner.

First, Mr. Takayoshi Suge talked about Preservation of Buildings and Citizens' Activities with Surrounding. how important citizens' activities across networks are for preservation of historical buildings, with examples of Network of Shonan Historic Residential Culture Zone's activities.

Second, Mr. Hiroshi Misawa talked about An Atchitect, Antonin Raymond. Raymond's works in Japan, his architectural concepts, and his best followers, Junzo Yoshimura and Kunio Mayekawa whose exhibitions have been popular nowadays. Moreover, a reminiscent Socony Residences, Honmoku of the 80's was showed using about 230 slides of valuable footage of his works.

During the break time, many Raymond's works in various places of Japan were introduced with DVD footage of Modernism Architecture in Japan published by Shokokusha.

It was an enjoyable yet informative event to help us understand the circumstances and recognize the appeal of his works. (December 18, 2005)
